Wow! It's January 18th already!! If only all my thoughts had magically transposed themselves to my blog...can't believe they didn't. Today, I'm gonna change the routine (if I ever had one) and give one thing I'm thankful for:

1-BOOKS

But, not to keep you wondering what I'm currently reading, here they are in no particular order, (which is how I read them and how I keep them on my nightstand, huh, Judy!)
Books on Dan's nightstand in normal orderly fashion
  • Ten Secrets for the Man in the Mirror - Patrick Morley (Startling Ideas About True Happiness)
  • A Shepherd Looks At Psalm 23 -Phillip Keller (An inspiring and insightful guide to one of the best-loved bible passages) Yes, Darren, I'm still reading it...it is fantastic!)
  • The Wit and Wisdom of Abraham Lincoln -Jack Lang (1942..good luck finding it)
  • Teams of Rivals-Doris Kearns Goodwin (2005..no problem)-The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln {881 pages - not for the casual reader}
  • Does Your Tongue Need Healing?[I didn't have to read the book to get the answer to that one!!]-Derek Prince (No relation that I know of!) Since DEATH and LIFE are in the power of the tongue, it is imperative to know how it may be healed.
  • Major Account Sales Strategy -Neil Rackham (Don't bother unless you are in business development)
  • The Leadership Secrets of Billy Graham -Myra Shelley (Very surprising-a great read of unknown leadership skills he mastered out of humility, trust, and integrity)
  • Andrew Jackson - H.W. Brands (His life and times)

Recently finished, and reviewing again:

  • The End of Poverty -Jeffrey D. Sachs (Economic Possibilities for our time...not Christian based, but cuts to the heart of the U.S. ignoring poverty and disease in the world)One quote: "Every morning our newspapers could read: "More than 20,000 people perished yesterday of extreme poverty" ." This is a tough ready being a white, middle class, U.S. republican, and Christian. Not for the faint hearted.
  • 1776 - David McCullough - wonderful history of a one year period (actually a few years leading up to it). Think you know George Washington? Read this one for a very close look!)
  • The 8th Habit - Stephen R. Covey; if you are into his 7 habits of highly effective people, this is the icing on the cake; a must read for anyone in organizations of any kind.
  • The Essentials of Treasury Management - don't go near these 760 pages; it is to help me pass a test in July to be a Certified Treasury Professional, a real plus for my banking job with ministries, for credibility purposes, but more so that God can really use me to help ministries be more effective in their cash management.

O.K., yes, I'm reading through the Bible this year; its on my Palm and keeps me up to date by beeping me to death when I don't do the daily check off; but I appreciate the prompting!! I just pretend it is God.

What are you reading?

:) It's no wonder you don't blog much, you are too busy reading. I have to say Uncle Dan, that I thought the only person's house with book piles in my family would be Moms, but now I know it runs in the family. Comforting to know, really! Let me know when you get them all read! Love you guys!
